Isabel birchall

Isabel Birchall is an artist originally from Manchester, but is currently based in Huddersfield, where she is pursuing a degree in Contemporary Art. Her practice is deeply influenced by surrealism and the concept of the uncanny, exploring themes of distortion, perspective, and unexpected juxtapositions.

Primarily working with oil paints, Birchall employs a mixed-media approach that incorporates collage as a foundation for her compositions. This process allows her to experiment with perspective and fragmentation before translating her ideas onto canvas. In the past year, she has expanded her practice to include ceramics and sculpture, integrating three-dimensional forms into her work. Additionally, she has begun incorporating digital techniques, including AI-generated imagery, to further push the boundaries of her creative process.

A recurring motif in her work is the goldfish, a symbol that frequently appears across her paintings and mixed-media pieces. Through this and other surreal elements, Birchall constructs visually striking narratives that challenge perceptions of reality while maintaining a dreamlike, evocative quality.
